The Department of Literacy: Libraries is pleased to announce the SOAR Spring Sweep program. Library databases need to be maintained on a regular basis to function at peak efficiency. Many librarians prefer to use this time of year to perform some additional work on their SOAR databases to make them as accurate as possible to best serve their students. To support this work and to help build library collections, the SOAR Spring Sweep program will provide the opportunity for up to 30 CPS librarians to sign up to do specialized work on their SOAR databases and receive a $1,000 set of award-winning book sets for their libraries. See further details below:

SOAR Database Work Options
(You will select one first-choice option and one second-choice option when registering. These choices should reflect necessary work at your school and will be approved by the Libraries team. It is estimated that each of these options will take approximately ten hours; individual time commitments will vary according to the work pace and other unique factors. If your library collection does not require any of this work, you should not apply to participate. Upon approval, you will be provided more detailed information on how to perform these actions.)

  1. Full library inventory or partial inventory (min of 3,000 items scanned)
  2. Update brief records with ISBNs / title check OR enter items that have never been entered into the system (min of 250 records updated and/or items added)
  3. Update items in the Staff collection to the appropriate collections (min of 300 items updated)
  4. Collection weeding (min of 350 items weeded and removed from SOAR database) [Note: Only select this option if your collection requires this level of weeding]

Timeline
All work must be completed by June 12, 2015. Work options have been designed to be able to be accomplished during regular work/processing periods and are part of the normal duties of CPS librarians. The selected work option must be accomplished by this deadline in order to remain in good standing for future departmental grant opportunities.
